Authorities in Lancaster have launched an investigation after a man’s body was discovered in the back of a U-Haul truck early Sunday morning.

Deputies were initially called to the Shadow Park Inn Motel around 1:49 a.m. for a welfare check on a missing person, according to L.A. County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Steve De Jong. While at the scene, deputies noticed a U-Haul truck leaving the motel, located in the 44000 block of Sierra Highway.

Law enforcement later located the truck at a home on Beech Avenue. Upon inspecting the vehicle, deputies found an open trash bin in the back of the truck containing the body of an adult male.

Several individuals were detained at the residence, though it’s unclear if any arrests have been made at this time.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
