Lily Allen has publicly apologized for her past remarks criticizing Katy Perry’s participation in the recent Blue Origin space flight.

During the April 28 episode of her podcast Miss Me?, the 39-year-old singer expressed regret over singling out Perry. She admitted her comments stemmed from her “own internalized misogyny,” adding, “There was actually no need for me to bring her name into it.”

Allen said she’s reflected on the situation and now realizes that it wasn’t fair to target Perry. “I do disagree with what they did, but she wasn’t the only person on that trip. I chose her to criticize because she’s high-profile and sometimes divisive — and I shouldn’t have.”

She added, “If it were me, I would’ve felt hurt too. I’m sorry, Katy Perry. I know you probably don’t listen to this podcast, but I truly am sorry.”

Earlier this month, Allen had mocked the 11-minute all-female space flight, which included Perry, Lauren Sánchez, Gayle King, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn. She questioned the purpose of the flight, calling it “out of touch” given the economic struggles many are facing.

“Life is really expensive right now,” she said. “I know I’m doing fine financially, but it feels tone-deaf. There’s no scientific purpose to the trip — they turned it into some kind of feminist statement, and I just don’t get it.”

Despite walking back her remarks, Allen isn’t alone in questioning the Blue Origin mission. Celebrities like Joe Rogan, Jessica Chastain, and Olivia Wilde have also voiced their skepticism.

Meanwhile, Perry has kept her response subtle. During a recent tour stop in Mexico City, she told fans, “Has anyone ever called your dreams crazy?” — possibly a nod to the backlash.
